Tal como se predecía, el cuadro “Sixteen Jackies”, de Andy Warhol (1928-1987), encabezó la subasta de arte contemporáneo organizada por Sotheby's en esta ciudad, al alcanzar un precio de 20.2 millones de dólares (14.06 millones de euros), en una velada que reportó un total de 128 millones de dólares.
"La pieza es una inusual muestra de dos de los pilares en los que se apoyaba el arte de Warhol: los iconos populares y la repetición de imágenes", explicó un responsable de Sotheby's respecto al lienzo realizado en 1963.

La exposición del australiano Ron Mueck en el MARCO de Monterrey no va más allá de una técnica admirable que se convierte en problema cuando uno aún no termina el recorrido. Tal vez por eso la muestra se anuncia como Ron Mueck, así, a secas. Y no Dominique Lemieux imaginando personajes o Beuys y más allá.
Mueck es un personaje que proviene del mundo del cine, específicamente del área de los efectos especiales, he ahí la técnica de este señor. También es importante saber que en el arte contemporáneo, como en casi todo, existen formulas y dentro de la carrera de artes plásticas, en los talleres de escultura por ejemplo, es muy común el ejercicio de jugar con la escala, es decir, tomar algo muy pequeño para llevarlo a la monumentalidad y viceversa. Formula que se puede aprovechar siempre y cuando el artista tenga algo que decir, cuando esto no sucede, no nos confundamos, estamos hablando de decoración o trabajo artesanal, lo cual no es nada malo ya que son oficios que requieren de gran disciplina, pero el arte desde sus inicios, ha sido un lenguaje y por lo tanto comunica, genera pensamiento, provoca, cuestiona, denuncia, cura y a veces también, ha dado respuestas a preguntas que rondan en el tiempo que vivimos.

La edición XIV de PhotoEspaña reunirá a 370 artistas de 55 nacionalidades, en un programa que tendrá al retrato como eje temático del festival, informaron hoy aquí sus organizadores.
En rueda de prensa, el comisario del evento, Gerardo Mosquera, explicó que el retrato es una rama de la fotografía no abordado en las anteriores ediciones del festival y que forma parte cotidiana del estudio y creación de la imagen.

Una obra del pintor francés posimpresionista, Paul Gauguin, fue blanco de un acto de vandalismo en una de las salas de la Galería Nacional de Arte, se reveló hoy en la prensa.
Una mujer fue detenida y compareció ya en una corte bajo cargos de intento de robo en segundo grado, aunque las razones detrás de sus acciones se desconocen, de acuerdo con un reporte de “The Washington Post”.
